    Regional workshop on environmental crime

    Environmental crime accounted for approximately $91 to $258 billion in turnover in 2016 according to estimates by INTERPOL and the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), making it the fourth most lucrative crime typology in the world behind drug trafficking, counterfeiting and human smuggling and trafficking.

    To strengthen the fight against environmental crime, PAcCTO works with its Latin American partner institutions. In this regard, the Jaguar Network has been created (police specialized in this area in the European Union and Latin America) and we work together with the AIAMP Environmental Defense Network.

    This workshop, in Mexico City, will be attended by a representative of each prosecutor’s office, a member of the AIAMP Environmental Defense Network, as well as the strategic contact point of the Jaguar Network, experts in the field and institutions such as Ameripol, Eurojust, Europol and Interpol, as well as projects funded by the European Union such as the Alliance for Wildlife and Forests.

    The general objectives are:

    Consolidation and strengthening of the Jaguar Network and the AIAMP Network of specialized environmental crime prosecutors;
    Strengthening of international and inter-institutional coordination (Police – Prosecutor’s Office);
    Establishment of joint investigation teams;
    Development of joint operations between Latin America and EU member countries in collaboration with EUROPOL within the framework of the Jaguar Network.
