What is the CLASI?
Organized crime affects all countries, deteriorating the lives of its citizens. Fighting it is a joint task and requires effective cooperation between States. The Latin American countries participating in the El PAcCTO program have demonstrated their unequivocal willingness to cooperate in the fight against this global phenomenon. To obtain a greater return on its commitment and efforts, the PAcCTO proposes the creation of the Latin American Committee on Internal Security. CLASI would be a coordinating body that, like the COSI of the EU, promotes a more effective fight against organized crime, through the promotion of closely articulated public policies among its members. For the definition of the best common action strategies, CLASI may have its own analysis tool: the Documentation and Threat Assessment Instrument in Latin America (IDEAL). CLASI would be born with the support of various Directorates-General of the European Commission. , the Council of the European Union and the European External Action Service. A historic opportunity for Latin America in its fight against organized crime.
