Fifteen people arrested during an anti-drugs operation in Honduras

15 November 2021

On 7 November, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Honduras reported the arrest of fifteen people during an anti-drugs operation where 50 kilos of cocaine were seized. Among those arrested are six officers from the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI).

Participants in the detention were the Directorate Against Drugs Trafficking (DLCN in its Spanish initials) and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bajo Aguán, in the Caribbean. They also had the support of the Xatruch Task Force in a neighbourhood inTocoa.

Jaime Leonel, DLCN deputy director at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, assures everyone that EL PAcCTO’s technical support was fundamental in solving the case. “EL PAcCTO has certified our staff’s expertise regarding seized phones, undercover officers, etc. Therefore, the knowledge of our researchers has been strengthened. This has enabled the capture of the 15 people who trafficked 50 kilos of cocaine”.

“In this case, the communications intervention technique was used. We had the ability to extract the information from the telephones, to be able to analyse them and track down the criminal organisation”, says Leonel.

In a statement, the Honduran Prosecutor’s Office reports that, in addition to drugs, 14 cell phones, four firearms, a rifle, five chargers and five automobiles had also been seized.
