Starting on Wednesday, 6 April, for three days, prison trainers from Latin America and the European Union, participants of the Network of Interventional Academies (RAP) will meet in Montevideo, Uruguay to share their knowledge of corruption, internal control, investigation and international cooperation at the first face-to-face meeting of the Network of Bi-regional Interventional Academies promoted by EL PAcCTO.
After a year of virtual work, leaders from schools and academies in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Italy, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal and Uruguay will have the opportunity to meet in person to share good practices on the subject of prison schools and their training programmes.
The RAP came into being during the pandemic
The RAP was formed in the throes of the pandemic as a space for regional cooperation between training centres and academies in Latin American and European countries. There are currently 17 schools involved that have shared a copious number of technical documents, organised themed meetings, bilateral meetings and multinational and bilateral activities.
The opening event will be attended by Paolo Berizzi, Ambassador of the European Union in Uruguay, Luis Alberto Heber, Minister of the Interior, Martín Lema, Minister of Social Development, Claudia Romano, Manager of AUCI, Luis Mendoza Novo, Director of the National Institute of Rehabilitation , Fabián Rosano, director of CEFOPEN and Rosanna de Oliveira, president of the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion who will present the constitutional deed of the institute.
The meeting will be an opportunity to make proactive contributions that will lead to further growth and consolidation of the RAP, strengthen cooperation, including scientific cooperation for the prison sector and will focus on the role of training in prison doctrine, dynamic security and prevention and control measures to counteract corruption in the prison environment.
An agreement to benefit all Latin American countries
To round off the meeting, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (operative) for the institutionalisation of the RAP is expected by the representatives of the academies that will attend the meeting. The text of the aforementioned MOU was drafted jointly by all the participants at the last monthly RAP meeting.
